Position Summary
The Audio-Visual (AV) Technician is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining AV systems for meetings, classrooms, events, and live productions. This role requires hands-on technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to provide excellent support in fast-paced environments. The AV Technician ensures that all AV equipment performs reliably and that clients and end users receive outstanding service.

This is a regular, full-time, in person position located in the central DC and Baltimore area. Applicant must be within a commutable distance. Benefits include paid time off, medical reimbursement stipend, holiday pay, eligibility for 401K and training and development.

Position Summary
The Audio-Visual (AV) Technician is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining AV systems for meetings, classrooms, events, and live productions. This role requires hands-on technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to provide excellent support in fast-paced environments. The AV Technician ensures that all AV equipment performs reliably and that clients and end users receive outstanding service.
Technical Operations
- Set up, operate, and strike AV equipment including microphones, speakers, projectors, cameras, video displays, mixers, and conferencing systems.
- Set up and alter room arrangements to include tables, seats, and stages according to layout diagrams, blueprints or schedules
- Support hybrid meetings and events using platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Webex.
- Perform routine equipment testing, calibration, and preventive maintenance.
- Troubleshoot technical issues in real-time, escalating to the Lead Technician or Engineer when needed.
- Be the first point of contact for client technical support issues
- Assist with rehearsals, recordings, and live streaming as required.
- Provide hands-on technical support to presenters, speakers, and participants.
- Maintain a professional demeanor while working directly with clients, end users, and event staff.
- Engage customers and provide outstanding customer service with clients.
- Conduct quality control analysis: run video, audio, and signal testing.
- Operate and troubleshoot sound and video
- Disassembling audio and visual equipment and packing up after the event.
- Respond to requests from Live Production Lead on tasks that need to be completed
- Clean and maintain equipment and report any damages to the Live Production Lead
- Design, integration and troubleshooting of complex AV systems
- Track and report equipment usage, malfunctions, and repairs.
- Follow company SOPs for system setup, cable management, and safety compliance.
- Assist in maintaining inventory and ensuring equipment is stored properly.
Qualifications
Education & Certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or coursework in AV preferred.
- Avixa CTS certification (or progress toward) is a plus.
- Manufacturer certifications (Crestron, Extron, Q-SYS, Dante Level 1, etc.) are desirable.
- Familiarity with Milestone security software
- Familiarity with Medialon Showmaster Pro (7th Sense)
- 2–3 years of hands-on AV installation, event, or technical support experience.
- Familiarity with AV over IP, digital signal processing, and control systems a plus.
- Experience supporting hybrid/virtual conferencing systems preferred.
- Knowledge of technical equipment (NewTek TriCaster, Blackmagic Design ATEM, Digital Audio Consoles, LED Lighting, ENG and Cinema Cameras
- Experience with broadcast video, live sound reinforcement, theatrical lighting, staging, multimedia design technologies, and control systems.
- Expertise in setting up sound and lighting for video purposes.
- Strong technical aptitude and ability to quickly learn new systems.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to think, plan, and execute on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of basic live streaming/satellite distribution of remote events.
- Professional communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and flexible schedules as required.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and work in various event environments.
